According to a Greek myth, the Olympic Games
were founded by Zeus. The story tells how Zeus
wrestled with his father, Kronos, at Olympia to
win control of the world. To celebrate his
victory, Zeus held a series of contests for the gods.

An Olympic State of Mind
By 3R

March 2010: During a current events unit about the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, third grade students researched the Olympics past and present, the sports and events included in the Winter Olympics, and the athletes participating in the 2010 Games. They then became inspired by Jay Z and Alicia Keys and decided to create a rap of their own. There were many aspects to this project besides reading, writing and research. The students learned early on that writing a song as a class required a lot of cooperation and the art of negotiation.
